Anela joined Liliʻuokalani Trust as an intern during the summer of 2015 and continued as a Communications Associate in 2016.
After taking a little two-year detour to complete her marketing degree at UH Mānoa, study for the LSAT, and learn how to pour the perfect cappuccino at Brue Bar, she returned to LT where she now serves as the assistant to the president.
The Queen’s legacy and the mission of LT are very dear to Anela. As a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, she believes it is her kuleana to give back to the Native Hawaiian community. As a foster parent since the age of 19, she is passionate about mentoring youth and helping them to realize their value and potential, especially youth who have experienced hardship. She also enjoys the opportunity to serve as a Girls Cross Country Coach at Kamehameha and as a National CASA Volunteer, where she has the privilege of advocating for Hawaii’s foster youth in Family Court.
Through her work with LT and her undergraduate internship with the Hawaii Innocence Project, Anela has realized her dream of becoming, not just an attorney, but an agent of change and social justice. She will begin law school in Fall of 2019.
She currently lives in Kailua with her husband and his two younger siblings whom they adopted in 2014. On her days off, she loves watching the sunrise above the Mokulua Islands, heading to the beach or to football games with the boys, tasting all the coffee and wine this world has to offer, reading the latest non-fiction bestseller, or simply relaxing in her backyard with good music, better food, and the best company—her ‘ohana.
