Harry Wasson

As a boy, Harry learned to be helpful and teachable, growing food and raising both pigs and chickens.

He remembers his mom, Dawn K. Wasson, sharing a story by the late Leroy Pukahi, about a man named Hamana Kalili, "who lost the three middle fingers of his right hand while working at the Kahuku Sugar Mill. Kalili was then shifted to guarding the sugar train, and his all-clear wave of thumb and pinkie is said to have evolved into the shaka as children imitated the gesture."

Harry was told that when Kalili points at you two times, it means “see you tomorrow, be early at the boat house for go holoholo."
