Butterfly Effect 2024

Butterfly Effect

Butterfly Effect is a Hawaiʻi Island program that focuses on the creative process of filmmaking. This program will provide an opportunity for participants to learn the skillsets of becoming a modern storyteller in the Pacific. Creating kaʻao, especially when created by kamaliʻi, will connect them to communities, to place and time, and most importantly, to one another. The naʻau will reflect a lesson in relationship; whether relationship with self, others, or environment.

The program comprises of a two (2) week-long day camp during summer break (Monday-Friday, July 15 -26, 2024) at Kīpuka Hilo. Partnered with the Smithsonian Institute, kamaliʻi will learn about storytelling, camera operation, composition techniques, and editing, culminating in the creation of multiple short videos.

Project Goal:
To provide youth with creative outlets and skills that allow self-reflection and social awareness to make responsible decisions. An opportunity to guide and develop the lifestyles and behaviors for kamaliʻi to connect with our ʻāina and moʻolelo.
