Deadline to apply is May 12, 2023 'Ōlino Summer 2023 Dates: June 13 - June 30 (Monday - Friday)Time: 9AM - 3PMLocation: The KROC Center, 91-3257 Kualakai Pkwy, ʻEwa Beach, HI 96706Ages: 11-17yrs We are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for all kamaliʻi interested in joining us this summer for the ʻŌlino Summer Program – June 13 – June 30. This summerʻs program will be held at the Salvation Army KROC Center located in ʻEwa. ʻŌlino Summer is designed to give kamaliʻi ages 11 to 17 a fun and safe space to spend their summer building pilina and exploring pathways they love or have always wanted to try. Each age group will have the opportunity to explore one of the pathways designed to learn new skills and have new experiences while being rooted in Hawaiian culture and values. Kamaliʻi can choose one pathway to attend this summer:Ages 11-14Sports Pathway The Sports Pathway is designed for kamaliʻi to explore ocean sports and activities. Kamaliʻi will participate in various ocean and cultural activities like canoe and stand-up paddling, all led by our partners Nā Kama Kai. We hope that this experience will help to deepen the kamaliʻi connection to the ocean, community, and our environment.Ages 11-17Music Pathway The Music Pathway’s program is built to educate Hawaiian youth in music by building music appreciation and skills development while using a blended methodology of technical and values-based lessons fostering quality engagement and outcomes that are important in indigenous educational settings as well as Western-based educational systems. We build music appreciation and skills development through combined content in order to educate Native Hawaiian youth in music.Performing Arts Pathway The Performing Arts Pathway is designed for kamaliʻi to share their stories through Theatre and Dance. Kamaliʻi and kumu will work collaboratively over the 3-week program to learn from each other and create an informal performance piece that reflects our collective. Ages 14-17 Creative Media Pathway The Creative Media Pathway is designed to give kamaliʻi experience in video production as a mode of storytelling. A collaboration with ʻŌlelo TV, kamali’i will work in teams to produce their own digital media project based on a theme.
