Kainoa Raguindin

Kainoa Raguindin is a Resident Advisor who works with kamaliʻi in Lydia House’s Residences and Engagement Center in downtown Honolulu. In his role, he provides hope and support to at-risk youth ages 16 to 26.

Kainoa’s desire to help vulnerable youth became evident during his college years. While studying Sports Science and football at Whitworth University for two years, he later shifted his focus to Social Services. Kainoa also studied at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon, before returning to Hawaiʻi to embark on his professional journey in Social Services.

Following his college years, he worked as a Youth Counselor at Hale Kipa Emergency Shelters, where he aided foster, houseless, and youth ages 12-17, in crisis situations. He also was a Mental Health Technician at Care Hawaiʻi, supporting adults transitioning from homelessness and the Hawaiʻi State Hospital system. It was during his previous roles that he became familiar with LT’s programs for vulnerable youth in Waiʻanae.

“I’m grateful for our Queen and blessed for this opportunity she has provided us to perpetuate her noble legacy through works that nurture Hawaiian children and help them attain a better quality of life,” he says.

Kainoa is passionate about sports and inspiring youth to reach their potential. He is the founder of #0PP0R2NiTY #2iNSPiRE, a youth development program that provides coaching and mentoring to young football players and at-risk youth. He hopes to develop the program into a nonprofit organization with a youth center in ʻAiea. “I believe that through our center and programs, we will create a great opportunity to make an impact in youths’ lives,” says Kainoa,

Kainoa is a graduate of ʻAiea High School. When he is not working at Lydia House or motivating youth athletes, he spends valuable time with his children, enjoys hikes and beach outings, stays active with exercises, and unwinds by watching sports at home.

His hobbies are often accompanied by music —with tunes from the '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s on his playlist.
