Liliʻuokalani Trust Names New Executive Director of Youth Services Center 2019-12-04 Liliʻuokalani Trust Names New Executive Director of Liliʻuokalani Youth Services CenterBy Olivia Peterkin – Web Editor, Pacific Business NewsLiliʻuokalani Trust has named Kimo Carvalho as its new executive director for its Youth Services Center, the social services organization announced Wednesday.In his new position, Carvalho will be responsible for leading the Youth Services Center's development, and ensuring the center is a place of "hope and healing" for young people needing support. The newly created position is part of the Trusts's plan to serve disadvantaged youth by addressing issues specific to intergenerational poverty among Native Hawaiians.Prior to his current position with Liliʻuokalani Trust, Carvalho was the director of community relations and development at the Institute for Human Services for six years, where he was in charge of overseeing community and volunteer engagement.A graduate of Damien High School, Carvalho started his career as a paramedic in New Orleans, and as a disaster medical provider during Hurricane Katrina.In 2015, Carvalho was one of Pacific Business News' 40 Under 40, and is an East-West Journalism fellow.“We are fortunate to have Kimo at the helm of the LHC," said Liliʻuokalani Trust VP and Chief Program Officer Nālei Akina, in a statement.
