"Music of Queen Liliʻuokalani" -- Performance Sep 15 at Blaisdell Concert Hall 2019-09-18 "Music of Queen Liliʻuokalani" -- Performance Sep 15 at Blaisdell Concert HallProminent local artists and musicians, together with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, will honor Queen Liliʻuokalani with a once in a lifetime performance of a selection of her music at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Sunday, September 15.The 90-minute concert, spearheaded by local musician Moon Kauakahi and produced by Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT), is a celebration of music by and for the Queen. Performing artists include Robert Cazimero, Marlene Sai, Raʻiātea Helm, Aaron Mahi, Kimie Miner, David Kauahikaua, and Hoʻokena’s Horace Dudoit, Glen Smith, and Chris Kamaka.Some of the Queen’s mele “have not yet graced the ears to be heard nor the lips to be sung, and will be performed for the first time at the concert,” Kauakahi said. A companion collection of music by and for the Queen, “E Lei Hoʻi, E Liliʻulani Ē”, will be available for free download and streaming on the LT website later this month, featuring all of the concert artists with the exception of Ms. Miner, and the addition of Del Beazley, Eric Lee, Chinky Māhoe and Bobby Ingano as guest artists.“It is my intention, and the intention of those I have had the privilege of working with on this project, to honor the memory of our beloved Queen Lili‘uokalani and reflect the emotions that she put into each composition to tell the story of a people – Her People – whom she loved dearly,” said Kauakahi. The goal of both the concert and the free download is to bring the Queen’s music to life and make it available to as wide an audience as possible. Tickets to this Sunday concert are available for $15 at www.ticketmaster.com and the Concert Hall box office. Doors open at 1pm; the 90-minute concert starts at 2pm with no intermission.
