ʻĀnela Akiu

‘Ānela Akiu was born and raised in Kalihi, Kona, O‘ahu, and is a student at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, double majoring in Sociology and ‘Ike Hawai‘i, with an ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi minor.

She hopes to utilize what she is learning to attend law school and uplift the lāhui. Having a high interest in social justice and Hawaiian perspectives, ‘Ānela hopes to increase awareness about the necessity of ‘Ōiwi Philosophy in Hawai‘i within all institutions.

At the Lili‘uokalani Center, ‘Ānela hopes to create a safe space for kamali‘i to learn, explore, and create relationships. She hopes to pay tribute to and remember the mo‘olelo of Lili‘uokalani and of Honolulu through the ways in which resources, support, and spaces are provided for the youth of Hawai‘i.
