Hilo - ʻŌlaʻi Waʻa - Year-Round

Kīpuka Hilo

College is the open ocean. This is how you get your waʻa ready.

This hybrid series prepares Kamalei to step from high school into college with confidence, cultural grounding, and real tools that actually matter. Every session is held in a safe and supportive space with caring adults and trusted mentors who know this transition is more than paperwork.

Kamalei meet in person and on Zoom on Mondays, with an optional Sunday drop-in Zoom that makes participation possible from anywhere across Hawaiʻi. Term 1 focuses on applications, personal statements, FAFSA, scholarships, and choosing the right school. Term 2 focuses on college life, time management, self-advocacy, identity, well-being, and communication.

You will learn how to show up professionally online, talk story with guest speakers, meet new people across the pae ʻāina, and build pilina with others preparing for the same next step.

ʻŌlaʻi Waʻa builds readiness, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging so Kamalei feel steady and prepared as they launch forward.
