The Hawaiʻi Food Systems Summer program is a four-week, hands-on experience that immerses youth in traditional and modern food systems rooted in culture, science, and community.You’ll explore aquaponics, worm composting, gardening, agroforestry, and regenerative and urban agriculture. All learning is grounded in the Lōkahi Triangle, which emphasizes balanced relationships between ke Akua, kanaka, and ʻāina. Through huakaʻi and hands-on activities, you’ll see how healthy food systems support strong communities and ʻāina momona.This program blends ʻāina-based learning with creativity and technology. You’ll take part in hana noʻeau culinary labs that connect growing food to healthy food preparation. You’ll also explore digital tools like photography and 3D or laser printing to document and share your learning.Throughout the program, you and your peers will work together to create final projects that bring everything full circle. These include building a complete mini aquaponics system, preparing a culinary tasting, and creating digital storytelling pieces that capture your journey.This intensive is about more than food. It’s about food sovereignty, kuleana, and understanding your role in sustaining Hawaiʻi for future generations.
