Kona - Ka Piko o Ke Ala Hou - Summer

Kīpuka Kona

Ka Piko o Ke Ala Hou is a one-week summer program for youth ages 8–12, a time when curiosity, confidence, and identity are growing. This program gives you the chance to explore new interests while strengthening your connection to culture, ʻāina, and community.

Throughout the week, you’ll take part in hands-on experiences that blend learning and fun. You’ll explore mālama ʻāina through mauka to makai activities, learning about native ecosystems, stewardship, and the history of Queen’s ʻāina. You’ll also try Hawaiian arts like hula, oli, and lei making as ways to express yourself and connect to ʻike kūpuna.

Sports days focus on volleyball, basketball, and soccer, helping you build teamwork, communication, and confidence through movement and play. Alongside sports, you’ll explore e-gaming and digital activities that encourage creativity, balance, and responsible decision-making, while learning about possible pathways in digital storytelling and technology.

The week ends with a beach day to celebrate your growth. You’ll enjoy ocean activities, team-building games, and time to reflect on what you’ve learned. This final day strengthens your connection to kai and reinforces values of water safety, environmental care, and pilina.

Ka Piko o Ke Ala Hou helps you discover new passions, build resilience, and strengthen your sense of identity and kuleana as you continue your journey along Ke Ala Hou.

*All are welcome to apply with preference given to Native Hawaiian kamalei.
