Maui - Mauka to Makai - Summer

Kīpuka Kauaʻi

From the mountains to the ocean, your journey begins here. The 2026 Mauka to Makai Summer Program invites youth ages 12–18 from Wailuku/Central, and Upcountry/Pukalani to explore Maui’s landscapes through hands-on cultural learning.

Over four weeks, you’ll dive into voyaging traditions at Hui o Waʻa Kaulua, care for the watershed at Ulupalakua Ranch, and work the loʻi kalo at Nohoʻana Farm. Week one sets the foundation with piko reflections and team-led protocol to build pilina (relationships) and cultural grounding.

Each activity is designed to strengthen your sense of identity, kuleana (responsibility), and leadership. You’ll connect with the ʻāina (land), learn from mentors, and grow alongside peers who share your commitment to Maui’s future.

This isn’t just a summer program, it’s a chance to become a steward of your island, your culture, and your community.

You don’t need prior experience, just a willingness to show up, engage, and grow.

*All are welcome to apply with preference given to Native Hawaiian kamalei.
