Raiatea Helm Raiatea grew up on the island of Molokai where she learned to dance the hula when she was four years old, and started playing the ʻukulele at the age of 10. She grew an appreciation of Hawaiian culture and values from a very young age through both of her grandmothers. With the assistance of her father when she was 15, Raiatea knew she wanted to pursue Hawaiian music. She started her singing career in 2002 with the release of her first album, "Far Away Heaven." She has traveled and performed across the globe, including China, Japan, Tahiti, as well as the United States' East Coast and the majority of the Pacific northwest. She has gone on to record a handful of albums that have received international recognition.Raiatea is currently completing her BA in Hawaiian music at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She hopes to expand her knowledge in music while utilizing specific functions towards creating music programs for Hawaiʻi's future generations. Raiatea supports the thriving reawakening and development of Hawaiian identity through traditional means of music. Knowledge through Hawaiian mele catalyzes identifying some aspects through the wellbeing of our people.
