Wai Aka:s Liliʻuokalani Trust Virtual Counseling Wai Aka, Lili’uokalani Trust Virtual Counseling, is an interim service that provides brief mental health counseling to young people dealing with common issues and behaviors.Wai Aka supports kamaliʻi in navigating life’s challenges by offering tools, guidance, and culturally rooted practices to strengthen their ability to cope and find practical solutions. Counseling is provided as short-term support while longer-term services are explored.Liliʻuokalani Trust does not provide mental health diagnoses.For more information about Virtual Counseling, please contact us at 808-466-8080.Scope of ServicesLiliʻuokalani Trust will accept requests for Wai Aka services for certain diagnoses and situations. These are: Depression Anxiety Suicidal ideation (SI) without active intent Not more than one suicide attempt Non-suicidal Self-Injury High-functioning autism with mild symptoms with language skills and without significant cognitive delays Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Conduct Disorder Acute trauma and PTSD Youth with the following diagnoses that require more intensive or specialized therapy will not be eligible for services through the Wai Aka (Virtual Counseling) program due to their level of need:Eating disorders Schizoaffective disorder Schizophrenia Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Bipolar with frequent manic episodes Low functioning Autism Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) Complex trauma and complex PTSD Dissociative Identity Disorder Services include: Counseling by an LT counselorA maximum of 8 sessionsAssessmentsVirtual services Eligibility: 13-18 years old (if still attending high school)Native Hawaiian ancestryCurrently lives in HawaiʻiActively securing longer-term mental health services (e.g., already waitlisted)Consent from legal parent/guardian We accept referrals from: Legal parents/guardiansCase Managers/Social WorkersHealth professionalsSchool personnelOther helping professionals
