Ashley Badis

Ashley Badis is a biology major on the pre-med track at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Ashley was one of three honorees to receive the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award in the 2023 ESPYS due to her Title IX advocacy.

She is a plaintiff in a potential landmark Title IX case that alleges widespread and systemic discrimination against female athletes at James Campbell High School, the largest high school in Hawaiʻi.

Ashley worked with the Aspen Institute School Sports Equity Toolkit, a resource for students to help recognize disparities, take action, and make changes in their schools and community. She grew up playing various sports and competed in swimming and water polo throughout her high school career and enjoys surfing in her free time.

Ashley was drawn to the YAC because she is passionate about giving back to the community and advocating for youth voices. She wants to help future generations of kids in Hawaiʻi receive fair and equitable treatment, support, and access to resources. Ashley hopes the Liliʻuokalani Center will provide the support and resources that Native Hawaiian youth need.
