Claire L. Asam Claire Kalaupapahiwa Chun Mui Lock Asam brings a lifelong professional and personal commitment to na pua o Hawai‘i nei, the children of Hawai‘i, and our communities. She was elected Chair of the Board of Trustees of Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) in January 2018, and has served as an LT trustee since 2007.For the previous eight years, Dr. Asam was the president and executive director of the Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Center (QLCC). Prior to LT, she worked for 25 years at the Kamehameha Schools in numerous leadership positions serving the beneficiaries of the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate.Born and raised in Honolulu, Dr. Asam is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from Connecticut College, and received her Master’s in Education, her Certificate of Public Administration, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.As a civic and community leader, Dr. Asam currently serves on the Board of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, and on the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work. She previously served on the boards of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, Ho‘okako‘o Corporation, the Hawaii Medical Service Association; and the Advisory Boards of the Asian-Pacific Islander Youth Violence Prevention, the University of Hawai‘i Center for Hawaiian Studies, and ‘Imi Hale.Dr. Asam was awarded the designation of Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts Council of Hawai‘i; honored as a Distinguished Alumni by both the University of Hawaiʻi and the Kamehameha Schools; and was a recipient of the I Ulu I Ke Kumu award from the University of Hawaiʻi’s Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge.Living an active lifestyle, Dr. Asam enjoys exercise, as well as culinary and travel adventures with her husband, Dr. J. Kuhio Asam. They reside in Honolulu and have two adult sons, Trever and Robin, and four grandsons.
