Mahina E. Hugo

Mahina was appointed a Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) trustee effective February 1, 2023 succeeding retired Thomas K. Kaulukukui, Jr. Mahina joined LT in March 2018 and served as Executive Director of Youth Development until her trustee appointment.

Prior to LT, Mahina was the Head of School at La Pietra – Hawaii School for Girls.  A single-gender school graduate herself (Sacred Hearts, 1984), she joined the La Pietra faculty in 1992.  She has filled numerous roles in the school including assistant head, dean of students, associate admissions director as well as middle school events and activities coordinator, Peer Leader advisor, health and physical education teacher, class advisor, Hawaiian Club advisor and head varsity volleyball coach. 

As a University of Hawaiʻi Wahine volleyball player on the 1987 national championship team, Mahina was named Most Inspirational Player of the Year.  She is also a recipient of the UH Circle of Honor award. 

Mahina keeps active by speaking at various events, sitting on a few boards, and attending the many sporting functions around town.

She is married to Honolulu Firefighter Captain, Todd Hugo, and they are active members in their community of Waimanalo.

She is thrilled and honored to help advance the LT vision of creating pathways to a brighter future, to thriving, for our Hawaiian children.
